Materials and sources
Madiskon does not require materials to be copied into one place. A working environment can bring together material held in archives, museums, libraries, Wikimedia Commons, Finna, Doria and local collections, for example.
Lightweight data model
The Studio’s own structure is kept simple enough for practical work. Where useful, it can be linked to richer external data models and identifiers.
Connections and time layers
People, places, events, works, materials and sources can be connected. At the same time, Madiskon can distinguish the time of a historical event from the date of a later representation, and from the time of documentation or digitisation.
Storytelling and publication
Madiskon’s purpose is to help turn material into a story that is understandable and engaging for an audience. Alongside the publication, structured, sourced and machine-readable information is created so it can later be reused in other publications and services.
What Madiskon is not
Madiskon is not intended to replace museum collection management, archival systems, Finna, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata or other specialised services. Its role is to help use them together in practical cultural heritage work.
